Fabi + Rossi offers delicious European cuisine in the heart of the city of Austin. If you want to feel as though you’ve stepped into a cafe in Berlin, then Fabi + Rossi is the restaurant for you.
Everything Done in-House
You might assume that a restaurant would prepare its cuisine within the restaurant itself–this is normal. However, what’s above and beyond is when a restaurant both prepares its food in-house, as well as all of the ingredients that it takes to make that food. For example, Fabi + Rossi butchers their own meat, bakes their own breads, and flies in their own fish twice a week rather than buying it from an Austin market. Not only that, but the majority of things they purchase–from eggs to meat to veggies–are bought from local Austin farmers and ranchers.
A Short, but Sweet, Dessert Menu
The dessert menu at Fabi + Rossi isn’t lengthy by any means, but it does include some amazing eats that are great finds in Austin. For an after dinner treat, try the chocolate mousse with Vadouvan chocolate bar. If you’re a chocolate lover, this dessert is sure to please. Or, try the chèvre tart with preserved candied lemon, which is both sour and sweet.
Must-Try Mains
Like the dessert menu, the main menu isn’t very long. If you like German food, you’ll love the bratwurst here, which is of course served with Brussel kraut, chive knopfle, and schwarzbier sauce. Or, go for the schnitzel, which is a classic German favorite and a big hit at this restaurant. The schnitzel is made from Richardson’s pork, and is served with spatzle, beef kraut, and pilzrahmsobe. If schnitzel and bratwurst aren’t as sophisticated as you were envisioning your meal to be, then you must try the smoked lamb’s t-bone with ratatouille, onion nest, and tomato reduction. Or, try the Wagyu steak, served with scrumptious truffle fries. The duck and the halibut are also two favorites here.
If you’re a vegan, the Iche Liebe Tiere is a vegan plate of fresh daily vegetables and grains.
Starting Your Meal
To start your meal, we have to recommend the escargot, which is cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The Metzger board with chicken liver pate, Wagyu tartare, and smoked pork terrine is also a great option. On a cold day, ask to be served the soup of the day, which is always great.
Who Should Go
Fabi + Rossi is an intimate establishment that’s romantic, cozy, and dimly lit, and comfortable. Very European in both its design and its feel, this restaurant should be reserved for best friends, close family members, and sweethearts. It’s definitely not great for kids, and parties over six might feel a bit squished. Also, they don’t take reservations, so those that are okay with waiting for a table, adventurous, and relaxed with enjoy this place the most. There’s a very quaint outdoor seating area here that is simple but pretty. If you prefer dining in the outdoors or by the light of the moon, Fabi + Rossi will be extra fabulous in your book.
