Moonshine’s history makes eating here even more interesting than it would be otherwise. Moonshine originally began way back in 1852 as a Trading Goods Store. Then, it added on a saloon and domino parlor. It wasn’t until 2003, though, that Moonshine opened its doors as a restaurant, although the grill still focuses on how thing were when things were simpler, trying to recreate the feeling of the good old days.

Modern Comfort Food

The foods not total comfort, nor is it totally modern. Rather, it’s a fusion of both, making you feel slightly more sophisticated about choosing to order the corndog or warm bacon dip. Other modern comfort foods on the menu include cornflake fried chicken, the pimento cheese burger, campfire babyback ribs, Southern fried chicken and waffles, baked macaroni with pimento cheese and bacon gratin, the green chile macaroni, and the shrimp and grits.

Environmentally Conscious Food

The food here is prepared using local ingredients from farmers around Austin and other parts of Texas, and as Moonshine Patio’s website reads, they’re “committed to making the world a better place.” Not only that, but the restaurant claims to be 90 percent waste-free, making it a great place to go if you’re concerned about the earth.

Great Sweet Choices

If you love dessert, you’ll love the dessert options at this restaurant. Most people go for the peanut butter mousse pie with oreo cookie crust or the fudge stout brownie with chocolate malt ball ice cream. But, if you’re not a chocolate lover, then try the white chocolate bread pudding with raisins, pecans, bourbon cream sauce, or vanilla ice cream instead, or try the perfect signature skillet apple pie.

Brews, Bourbon, and More

Sticking with Texas tradition, there are some amazing brews and bourbons to choose from, as well as whiskey, scotch, tequila, vodka and gin, and cocktails, too. Of course, after its namesake, there’s also Moonshine to drink. Try the Old Fashioned cocktail, made with Kentucky Bourbon, orange, cherry, simple syrup, and homemade bitters, or keep it simple and delicious with the Hard Lemonade, made from vodka, muddled mint, Paula’s Texas lemon, and lemonade.

Beautiful Dog Friendly Patio

You could’ve assumed that Moonshine Patio and Grill would have a patio, but would have you have guessed that it’s dog friendly? Yep, despite how upscale this outdoor seating area is, patrons are now welcome to bring their pups. If you don’t have a dog, no worries, you’ll love the ambiance of this patio regardless. Super beautiful and romantic, it’s the perfect place for an intimate date or a relaxing night under the stars.

Brunch Buffet on Sundays

Not only is there brunch on Sundays, but it’s an all you can eat brunch that is offered for…$18 buck a person! For all you can eat of great food, that’s a great deal. Brunch starts at 9 AM and goes until 2 PM, and offers a variety of foods ranging from Migas to pancakes. Definitely one of the best brunches in Austin.
