If you like Greek food and the experience of fine dining, then you’ll love the atmosphere and entrée options at Alexander the Great in the Galleria area of Houston. Unlike some Greek restaurants that operate a more casual establishment, Alexander the Great offers a romantic ambiance while still maintaining all the traditional goodness of a Greek restaurant.

Live Music

On Friday and Saturday nights, Alexander the Great hosts a live Greek band that will delight you with traditional music. Not only does this band play for the benefit of the restaurant’s diners, but it’s also responsible for providing music for the belly dancer who will perform live while you dine. For dinner and a show, this restaurant’s the perfect weekend go-to.

Refined Dishes

Rather than the hand-held gyro that’s dripping with tzatziki sauce and making a mess just about everywhere, you’ll find more upscale menu options at Alexander the Great. For example, one of the preferred appetizers is the Tamara, which is a combination of red caviar that’s been whipped with lemon juice and olive oil. Or, if you prefer a hot appetizer, there’s always the mussels or octopus to try.

On the menu, you’ll find pork chops, a rack of lamb, charbroiled quail, Aegean seafood pasta, Mousaka, and lamb shank, just to name a few.

Mood Lighting

While you may not like restaurants that have dimmed the lights if you’re dining alone, the mood lighting here definitely can set the tone for a romantic evening if you’re on a date. While only casual attire is required and the price isn’t too expensive, you’ll be delighted by the lovely ambiance that Alexander the Great provides for lovebirds or those who want a more intimate dining experience.

Full Bar

Another great thing about Alexander the Great that sets it apart from other Greek restaurants in Houston is the fact that it offers a full bar, and can suggest an array of wines, cocktails, or beers to accompany your meal. Be aware though, the cocktails are pretty strong, which is great if that’s your preference. If not, stick to the wine.

Choose Valet

This place can be busy, and there’s not a lot of parking available. While you can drive around searching for parking, choosing the valet is recommended. However, the valet costs $10, so don’t go with hopes of it being complimentary.

Go with a Group

If you want a restaurant that can host your group, this one’s perfect. Call in advance and make a reservation for the sake of everything going smoothly, and be confident in knowing that Alexander the Great is used to large parties of 20 or more. With proper notice, they’ll even be willing to set up a special menu for you.
