With two locations in Houston—one on Kirby Drive, the other on Texas Street—Azuma Sushi and Robata Grill is a great place to go no matter where you live in the city.

Robata Grill: What’s That?

For those of you who are scratching your head at the name of this restaurant, you’re not alone—not knowing what a robata grill is isn’t at all uncommon. In Japanese, the robata is a shortened term for the Japanese word robatayaki, which translates to “fireside cooking.” Essentially, a robata grill is a type of Japanese grilling in which grills of hot charcoal are used to grill skewers and other types of food, traditionally seafood and vegetables.

Since this restaurant is one of the few in the area that offers a traditional robata grill experience, it’s a great place to try that may help to satisfy the adventurous side of you.

A Name that Means Something

It’s not only the latter half of this restaurant’s name that tells a story about the food; it’s the former part of it, too. Azuma Sushi is named after its founder and first chef, Azuma Kirby. While Azuma has since passed his chef’s hat to Masa-San, Azuma Sushi and Robata Grill still strives to retain the unique touch, delicious flavors, and tradition of excellence that were established under its founder.

Great Prices

Sushi can be expensive, and many sushi restaurants charge upwards of $15 per single roll. At Azuma Sushi, you can stop in during their lunch hours and pick up one of their sushi entrees for under $11.00. Try the Azuma selection, which includes a tuna, salmon, white fish sushi and California roll for $10; or go for the classic, which offers 5 pieces of futomaki and 2 pieces of tofu skin for $9. You can also order a bento box for only $15.

Hand rolls and specialty rolls for dinner, as well as other entrée items, are also very well priced at this restaurant.

Private Dining and Catering

If you’re searching for a venue to host your next business outing or special event, or if you need a restaurant that can cater for a special occasion or corporate happening, Azuma Sushi can help. With rooms that accommodate up to 10, 20, or 100 guests, Azuma is great for all your dining-in events. If, on the other hand, you prefer a catering service, Azuma offers a full service option and can prepare for nearly any sized group. For parties, make sure you make a reservation well in advanced.

Despite this restaurant’s classy atmosphere and high-class feel, no special attire is acquired, kids are welcome, the menu is priced fairly, take-out service is available, and the restaurant has a full bar. For a fun night out that’s affordable and delicious, Azuma Sushi and Robata Grill is pretty wonderful.
