Nestled within the Houston Museum of Natural Science is a beautiful world of colorful winged creatures. The Cockrell Butterfly Center is a living Butterfly habitat that is part atrium, part exhibit. You can walk in and view literally tens of thousands of butterflies in their natural environment, all the while learning about these remarkable insects.
Admission is cheap, and you can spend as long as you like in the center. There are informative plagues all throughout the habitat, explaining the birth, transformation, mating, and migratory patterns of the hundreds of different species of butterflies on display.
There is a screened in area for you to make sure there are no stow-a-ways before leaving.
There are both Family and Group rate admissions.

Not a bad place to go on the weekends. It’s small, so there isn’t much to do once you are done (other than go to the other museum exhibits), but the butterflies are beautiful and the flora is breath-taking to behold.
