Houston is one of the foodiest cities in the United States, and food lovers everywhere can find everything from goat cheese to escargot to specialty dishes and menus. Those who love traditional cooking, though, are often left wondering what happened to their much-loved and long-time-favorite meal: BBQ. For those who want to get their hands dirty with some true Texas cooking, Gatlin’s may be some of the best BBQ in Houston.

All the Favorites

Whatever your favorite BBQ dish is, they’re bound to have it have Galtin’s. Beef ribs, links, pork, brisket, turkey, and chicken are all in abundance at this BBQ joint. Accompany your barbequed meat with a yummy side, like green beans, potato salad, or dirty rice. Wash it all down with a big class of peach iced tea, which is a speciality here.

Hole-in-the-Wall

This really is a hole-in-the-wall type of place, and while their catering services would be great to feed your large group at an alternate location, this place is super small, and trying to find a table for even a smaller group or lunch for two might be a bit of a challenge. Also, it’s not too uncommon for there to be a long line and for favorite menu items to sell out. So, if you want to be guaranteed the meal you want and a place to eat, come early.

Plan to Spend

Despite the face that this restaurant is tiny and doesn’t offer a lost of space for diners, the prices aren’t too small themselves. While pork sliders are only $7.95, steak fries are over $8 and brisket is priced at $14.95 per pound. So, while you’ll no means spend a fortune here, this isn’t a fast food place, appearances aside.

Favorite Dishes

We said before that this is some of the best BBQ in Houston, and we stand by that, despite the cramped quarters. If you’re not convinced, try the brisket, the pulled pork, and the baked beans, and make sure you load up on lots of the famous BBQ sauce.

Fun for Events

While you probably shouldn’t bring your party into Gatlin’s, their catering service is definitely recommended. Use them for a staff lunch or even a rehearsal dinner, and you’ll be delighted with how high quality their food is both when dining in and when eating out. For more than 300 people, Gatlin’s only charged $10 per person, which is a pretty reasonable for a catering service. For less than 100 but more than 50, you’ll pay $12.50 per guest. Not bad.

Yummy Desserts

If you’re not too full after your BBQ meal, make sure you have one of the desserts that Gatlin’s offers. The brownies are absolutely amazing, and the assorted cookies, bread pudding, and homemade peach cobbler are also pretty great. Even if you’re not eating a full meal, this may become your new locale for your afternoon treat run….
