Share the Love

The love of food, that is. At Roost, dishes are intended to be shared amongst members of the table, making this Montrose area restaurant the perfect place to head to with a group of friends or family members. Plus, it means that you get to sample more yummy dishes that you would otherwise, making for one more reason that you should definitely go here.

What to Order

With so many options, knowing what to order can be tough. Ordering at least one dish per person is definitely recommended, and two dishes per person if it’s one of the smaller plates. Must have items include the famous fried cauliflower with bonito, miso dressing, scallions, and pine nuts; the bread service slow dough loaf with choice of spreads, including pimento cheese spread, sour cherry butter, garlic parmesan butter, or Nutella butter; and the poached gulf shrimp with avocado, grapefruit, chipotle, pico, and pita chips. You can also choose a large entrée for yourself (share if you wish), and if you do so, the all-crab crab cakes, or cast iron gulf fish are two favorites.

Lots of Changes

The only two consistent menu items at Roost are the bread service and the cauliflower, probably because they’re the best two things on the menu. However, that means that if you go one month and have a dish that you don’t absolutely love, there’s a good chance you’ll luck out the next month. Roost strives to keep the menu seasonal and fresh, hence the reason for the frequent changes.

Awesome Happy Hour

If you want to experience a really great happy hour, Roost is the place to go. Every day at this restaurant, you can get 50% off on all the establishment’s wines, beers, and even sake, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. And considering that some of the bottles of wine here are kind of pricy, this is a great deal.

Small Spaces

This restaurant is designed to fit fifty, and when it’s full, can feel a little cramped. Tables are close together, making private conversation difficult. Plus, the small space means that it can get a little loud on the weekends or busy nights. Rather than going during peak dinner hour on a Friday or Saturday night, try going to a late lunch or early dinner during the week—the dining experience will probably be more comfortable this way. If you’re a person who loves crowds and people, though, Roost will be your cup of tea any day of the week.

Roost is a popular place, and they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. If you have a group of less than 6, you may have to wait for a table. Also, if you do make a reservation, they require a credit card to hold it, and if you don’t show up, you’ll be charged a $25 cancellation fee per person for not showing up.
