Pull out your lederhosen or don your finest dirndl before heading to Rudi Lechner’s German restaurant in Houston. While the attire certainly isn’t required, you won’t feel out of place at this traditional and authentic German establishment.

German Dishes

You’ll find all your German favorites at Rudi Lechner’s, including wiener schnitzel, veal cutlet, sausage bratwursts, knackwurst, sauerkraut, sauerbraten, and polish sausages. Of course, there’s also plenty of German beer, and their Hofbrau Oktoberfest beer is available on draft throughout the course of the year.

Something for Everyone

If sauerkraut and schnitzel aren’t up your alley but you find yourself at Rudi’s with a group of friends or on a date, don’t worry; you’ll most likely be able to find a dish that’s suitable to your preference, too. In addition to all those German dishes, there are also some more American or Texas dishes as well, including honey teriyaki chicken, Idaho trout, grilled tilapia, and even sliced brisket with horseradish sauce. You’ll also find a bunch of sandwiches on the menu, familiar salads, great homemade soups that surely won’t offend your taste buds, and vegetarian entrees such as eggplant parmesan.

Great Desserts

If you don’t love German food, there’s a chance that you might love German desserts, as they’re pretty impossible to resist. The desserts at Rudi Lechner’s are no exception to this rule, and the black forest cake, apfestrudel, German chocolate cake, palaschinken (crepes filled with marmalade and topped with powdered sugar) will all melt in your mouth. Pair it with one of their delicious coffee options, like the the Rudi’s Gute Nacht Kaffe, and you’ll be more than satisfied.

Have Some Fun

Rudi’s is a fun restaurant that is constantly hosting events and working to ensure that its patrons have a good time. Every Wednesday from 6 to 9 PM, for example, Rudi’s hosts a “Loosen the Lederhosen” night which consists of an all-you-can-eat buffet accompanied by live music for only $15.95. They also host a pretty great New Year’s party if you’re looking for an untraditional and unique establishment to visit for the holiday.

High End Dining

A downside to Rudi’s is the cost, which is usually more than $15 a plate. That being said, the portions are sizeable and the majority of dishes are lauded by those who consume them as being some of the best German cooking outside of the country itself. Insider secret: if you’re not sure what to order but are searching for something warm and comforting, try the beef goulash. The beef is warm, extra tender, and will bring you back to your childhood days of eating home cooked meals.

If you like German food or just want a fun night to experience something out of the ordinary, Rudi’s provides both.
