For a fascinating and family-friendly outing in LA, visit Hancock Park where you will find the La Brea Tar Pits and the Page Museum. The La Brea “tarpits” are actually asphalt deposits scattered about and are the sites of current paleontological excavations.  The Page Museum houses fossils and provides education for people of all ages!

There are many opportunities for a full day of exploration at this site.  In addition to the tar pits, you can watch scientists at work, both in the field and in the lab, visit a garden planted from the seeds of prehistory, or participate in a guided tour.

The park and museum are open from 9:30am-5:00pm every day except on certain holidays. Tickets can be purchased online or on site.  Paid parking is available.  There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants in the area for after your visit.
