Bird Bakery is not only one of the cutest bakeries in San Antonio, but also one of the most delicious. Featuring cupcakes, pies, bars, cookies, and “bird food” (sandwiches and such), this adorable establishment is open for breakfast and lunch, and is the best place to grab dessert before the closing hour of 7:00 PM (8:00 PM on weekends).

You’ll Never Guess Who Owns It

As famous as the cupcakes and brownies here are the owners–Elizabeth Chambers and Armie Hammer. The husband and wife team has created a space that’s as aesthetically pleasing as are the treats they deliver, and if you want to find out how talented these two are outside of modeling, acting, and writing, check out Bird Bakery to sample their kitchen skills.

The Early Bird Gets the Worm

Breakfast at Bird Bakery is one of the best things about this place, so get here by opening at 7 AM if you want something hot and fresh. Our favorite breakfast options are the spinach parmesan quiche, the zucchini bread, the jalapeño cheddar scone, Mom’s banana nut bread, and house made granola.

The Desserts You’re Craving

This bakery has every kind of delicious dessert you could hope for, and if you’re a person with a sweet tooth, trust us–this is your new paradise. For cookie lovers, the oatmeal cranberry walnut is to die for, as is the double chocolate chip. If you’re more of a bar gal or guy, the sea salt peanut butter bar will rock your world, and the chewy pecan squares just as though grandma made ’em that morning. The cupcakes though is where they really shine, and you can get a cupcake in just about any flavor, and even order gluten-free. Favorite cupcakes are the black & white, southern red velvet, award-winning carrot, and luscious lemon. Finally, there are pies. These pies are fresh, cooked to perfection, and filled with real ingredients ranging from fruit to chocolate. Try the peach and blueberry cobbler, the honey cheesecake, the spiced buttermilk, or the rustic apple. If it’s fall, have a slice of the pumpkin.

If you need a custom-made cake or pie, you can place an order for one and they’ll create exactly what you’re looking for.

Try the Bird for Lunch

Go for any of the fowl-centric sandwiches, such as the traditional turkey, California turkey (avocado on this sandwich is a big plus), the tarragon chicken sandwich, or an egg salad sandwich. In addition, they also have a bomb tuna salad sandwich, a fantastic and very nostalgic grilled cheese, a PB & J with extra J for Jalapeño Jam, a regular peanut butter and jelly, and a Nutella sandwich. There’s also a great pimento cheese sandwich with southern pecans on seeded bread.

Top it All Off With Coffee

It doesn’t make sense to go to a bakery and get a bunch of goodies without a cup of coffee too, now does it? The coffee here is extra delicious, and even more so when requested in one of Bird Bakery’s big mugs.
