For a combination of Asian delights ranging from Korean BBQ to sushi, Kiku Garden on Goldfield in San Antonio is the best place to go. While the each option alone isn’t the best, the fact that you can get the two together in a comfortable atmsophere makes it worth it. If you’re in the area, here’s what’s best at Kiku Garden:

The Korean Barbecue Combo

The Korean bbq combo is one of the best things at Kiku, and is priced at $39.99. The portion is enough to feed a family of four, and is absolutely amazing! The flavor is spot on, the meat is cooked so it’s tender and juicy, and the outside of the meat is just slightly blackened, creating that delicious and smoky barbecue flavor. The Korean bbq comes with all the traditional fixings, and all of those are refillable for free, which makes it that much better!

The Sushi Bar

It’s pretty cool to see a sushi bar at a Korean restaurant, and if you like sushi and Korean bbq, you’re are going to go nuts for this place. Even if you don’t want Korean bbq, you can still go here for some pretty good sushi–it certainly holds it’s own when it comes to sushi options in San Antonio. The rainbow roll is great, not to mention a feast for the eyes–the colors of this roll are beautiful! You should also go with the chef’s choice, which features some pieces of whatever the chef is feeling that day. The volcano roll with scallops is also highly recommended, especially if you’re only so-so on sushi but love deep-fried goodness. The Marilyn Monroe roll is also a great roll, and features shrimp tempura. They also have some traditional Japanese things on the menu in addition to sushi, such as miso soup. You can also get teriyaki if you want, which is served in a huge portion size and is delicious.

The Traditional Korean Dishes

In addition to the Korean BBQ, this restaurant has some other great dishes that are very traditionally. Favorite Korean items are the jan-jahng-myun, the yook-ghe-jang (a beef stew that’s spicy and hearty), the bulgogi, the spicy pork, the gal bee with noodles (marinated pork with rice), and the chadol.

The Drawbacks

There are three main drawbacks to this place. The first is that the place is pretty removed, and the atmosphere is nothing special whatsoever. In fact, it’s almost a little scary seeming–but don’t worry, it’s clean once you get in! The second thing that people complain about is the service, which can get overwhelmed during rush hour. And the third thing are the prices. While some dishes are priced very fairly, a few are quite expensive, especially considering the service. While the food is good, and many people continue going despite the high prices of some dishes, keep it in mind before expecting a cheap meal.
