Kim Wah Chinese BBQ isn’t just the favorite of locals living in San Antonio; it’s won some awards by magazines such as Taste, too. If you want to see for yourself what all the hype is about, make your way to this delicious Chinese restaurant for your next meal out.

Chinese Special BBQ

While you might only associate Chinese food with lo mein and rice, the Chinese are also known for their fabulously barbecued meats. Try the roast duck, peking duck, honey BBQ pork, soy sauce chicken, or the Kim Wah special chicken. All the BBQ dishes, with the exception of the special chicken, come with rice. The meat on all is juicy, perfectly seasoned, and BBQ just the right amount.

Great Place for Seafood in San Antonio

If you like seafood, but also love Chinese food, you’ll love the seafood specials at Kim Wah. Here, you can find dishes like salted pepper squid, pepper shrimp, sweet and sour shrimp, sweet and sour sliced fish, steamed fish, stir fry shrimp with veggies, and more. The seafood is always fresh, and is a great option for those who want some protein but don’t eat chicken or red meat.

Two Part Menu to Keep Everyone Happy

There are two parts to the menu here: the Americanized section, and the authentic Chinese section. On the authentic Chinese section, you’ll find some great dishes, such as wonton soup, beef with black mushrooms, mandarin style pork chops, and more. If you really love Americanized Chinese food, though, you do have the option of the typical lo mein, fried rice dishes, egg drop soup, cheese rangoons, fried dumplings, and more. As such, this is the perfect place to take those who crave a truly authentic experience, as well as those who much rather prefer to eat food that they’re familiar with. Serving authentic Chinese food has also awarded them a lot of acclaim with those who have scoured San Antonio for authentic food, only to be disappointed by the poor selection.

Family Style Eating

Like a lot of Chinese restaurants, food here is ordered family style. While you can choose one dish for yourself, it’s much more appropriate and enjoyable to order a whole bunch of dishes that everyone at your table can share. If you’re going to go the sharing route, try the General Tso’s chicken, the Lover’s Shrimp or the Thai Pepper Basil Shrimp, the Orange Flavor Chicken, the Seafood Fire Pot, or the Kung Pao Chicken and Shrimp. Make sure you start your meal off with some wonton soup and egg rolls, too. If you’re eating with your family and have young children, there’s a kids’ menu that offers some less overpowering options (flavor wise) options for the chitlins.

While the atmosphere of this place isn’t much to write home about, it is clean, and has enough space to accommodate a large group or get together. Also, the prices are fair and the service is pretty good.
