Simi’s is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in all of Texas, and is a favorite in the city of San Antonio. To discover what all the hype is about, read on:

Everyone Loves the Lunch

A big lunch followed by a light dinner is the main mode of eating in many cultures, and quite a few San Antonians can often be found chowing down for a big afternoon meal and Simi’s. The reason that this place get’s so packed during the hours from eleven to three is definitely due to the amazing lunch buffet. The buffet has a bunch of different options, and offers tandoori chicken, tikki masala, chicken curry, daal, squash, cabbage, lamb kabob, biryani, mixed veggies, saag paneer, samosas, naan, salad, kheer, chutney, vindaloo, and more, plus four to six chef specials of the day. If that’s not enough to convince you to check this place out, we’re not sure what is.

Dinner Time Choices Just as Good

While the buffet is only served until three, meaning that the dinner crowd must order a la carte, the dinner menu here is just as good as the buffet menu. With a ton of appetizers to choose from–including shrimp pakora and raita–great tandoori breads and specials, combination dinners, chicken and lamb dishes, beef and seafood dishes, rice specialities, and fresh veggie dishes, you’re palate will stay entertained all evening.

Great for Vegetarians

If you’re a vegetarian and you haven’t discovered the wonders of Indian food, now’s the time to start. In fact, there’s a whole vegetarian menu at Simi’s. Try the paneer makhi, the aloo gobhi masala, the aloo paratha, or the veggie samosa. Also, all of the curries are pretty amazing, so don’t hesitate to go for one of those, too

Sweet Finds at Simi’s

If you like dessert and aren’t familiar with Indian sweet treats, you’re going to love what Simi’s Indian Cuisine has on their menu. Kheer is a traditional rice pudding that’s made from rice, milk, honey, and spices, and is a great way to finish off a spicy meal. The Gulam Jamun is another traditional dessert that’s found here, and is a cinnamon flavored pastry sponge in sweet rosewater. Why it may sound a little strange, it’s actually fantastic. If you’re feeling something lighter, go for a cup of coffee, or try a mango lassi, which is a sweet yogurt drink that’s served cold, similar to a smoothie.

Great for a Relaxing Evening

If the weekend hits and you need a place to relax and kick back with great food, good company, and a glass of wine or a beer, we recommend going here. The atmosphere is really laid back, the staff is super friendly, the food is delicious and inexpensive, and the wine and beer selection is pretty great, relatively speaking. With over 10 different beers to choose from, and about 20 different wines, you should be able to find something to match your mood or your meal. In fact, a glass of the house wine is only $2.95 a glass. You can also buy it by the carafe for $9.95–just one more reason to head here soon.
