Within Austin’s Zilker Park lay one of its crown jewels – Barton Springs Pool. A pool three acres big, it’s fed from a series of underground springs. Because of its source, Barton Springs Pool maintains an average temperature of 68 degrees through the entire year.

Over the years of its existence, Barton Springs Pool continuously draws visitors from each and every walk of life. All kinds of people, from conservative legislators who concocted various state laws while there, to free-spirited sunbathers who went topless and turned many a head during the 1970s, to a five year old Robert Redford learning to swim at the there while visiting family in Austin, have enjoyed the natural springs pool.

Today, Barton Springs Pool, a veritable cornucopia of history and human interest, continues to attract a completely diverse crowd. Looks like there is truth to adage “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
