Bike riding in Austin during summertime is possible. Regardless of the heat, if you keep moving, you’ll be just fine. The problem that cyclists, skaters, and joggers have is that the traffic light system of downtown Austin keeps them from moving continuously, making their favorite past time a danger in being baked alive. If only there was a place where you could go and cycle or skate without having to stop every few feet!

Enter the Veloway. This long stretch of cyclist’s dream is where you may cycle or skate to your heart’s content. Without the structure of traffic lights, the pressures of vehicular traffic, or the trampling feet of hundreds of pedestrians, you can just go – go – go. The Veloway is safe and enjoyable. You don’t need to worry about anything but cycling or skating along and enjoying yourself.

Just remember: Slow traffic stays to the right, and fast traffic sticks to the left. Watch out for blind curves, animals crossing the trail, and be aware that there is a steep grade hill about halfway through the Veloway.
