At the National Aviary there are about a dozen exhibits which showcase beautiful and endangered birds from a variety of habitats. You can visit the Tropical Rainforest exhibit, the Wetlands, the Grasslands, and the penguin area. There are roughly 200 species of birds, and the aviary is educational and meaningful, but is still modest and authentic.
Since you are interjecting yourself in bird habitats, wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Also, because much of the day includes bird feedings of some kind – like the Wetlands feeding and the Penguin feeding – prepare to be hands-on, depending on what’s going on at the time.
The National Aviary is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm every day except on some holidays. Admission is under $15 per person, and a live show add-on, like the Parrots of the Caribbean, is $5. Paid parking is available.
