Named as the best Korean restaurant in Houston in 2013 by the Houston Press, Bon Ga has been described as entering into another world, “one that seems increasingly preferable to your own.”

Where am I?

If you want to sit down and dine at a Korean place where, when you’re halfway through your meal, you can’t remember if you’re in Houston or Seoul, then Bon Ga is the place for you.  With food that is entirely authentic and feels as though a local family prepared it for you at a hole-in-the-wall shop in Korea, you’ll leave wondering why you haven’t dined here more often.

Shopping Mall Surprise

Don’t let the location of this restaurant discourage you. Despite all outside appearances, such as the fact that Bon Ga is located in a shopping mall, the food is truly delicious and the inside ambiance is nice.

Pancakes and BBQ

Korean food consists of a lot of pancakes, although these aren’t your traditional Saturday morning pancakes that you load with Aunt Jemima; rather, you’ll find seafood scallion pancakes, squid and shrimp pancakes, zucchini pancakes, and more at Bon Ga. Since BBQ is also something that Korea is famous for, you won’t be disappointed by the BBQ selections at Bon Ga, such as the boneless beef ribs or the Dwaeji Bulgogi.

Seoul Food

In addition to BBQ and pancakes, you’ll find a lot of other comfort foods straight from Seoul at this small restaurant. The Kimchi pot stew with beef will warm you up on the coldest of days, and the Tteokguk Mandoo soup with bean threads is a perfect starter to your meal. Grilled mackerel, marinated octopus, tofu stew, and an assortment of Banchan help to add to this restaurant’s uniqueness.

Bring Yourself, Bring a Group

Bon Ga is open from 10 AM to 10 PM Monday through Sunday, and they don’t take reservations. That being said, nearly anytime is the perfect time to show up for a great meal, either alone or with a group. While they only serve beer and wine, you can count on a fun evening and great service. Bon Ga isn’t the fanciest place around, but it certainly has good food for a reasonable price. And with all the options to choose from, sharing a few plates amongst friends or family is a great idea.
