Houston is bursting with steakhouses, Mexican restaurants, and food carts galore, but finding great Greek food can be hard in this bustling city. Whether it is olives and feta that get you going or calamari and cabbage rolls, you’ll find all your favorite Greek foods at this traditional Greek restaurant in Houston Montrose neighborhood.

Some of The Best Greek Food in Houston

Perhaps the most famous Greek food is the gyro, and prepare to be please by the amazing gyro sandwich at Niko Niko’s. Loaded with chopped lamb, beef, onion, tomato, and spices, this pita is stuffed to the brim and topped with tzatziki sauce. If pita isn’t your thing, you can also get the gyros plate, which is basically the same thing with double the amount of meat and a Yalandji dolma, with the pita on the side.

Fill Your Plate

In addition the gyros plate, you’ll also find the Hercules plate (gyros, souvlaki, chicken kebab, veggies, and more), Yalandji dolmas, spanakopita, souvlaki and chicken combo, the eggplant boat, and the Kreatopita (fillo filled with ground beef, garlic, onions, and carrots served with a Greek salad and pita). For an endless option of Greek plates, Niko Niko’s is the place to go.

Open for Breakfast

Most Greek restaurants serve lunch and dinner, and perhaps a pastry and cup of coffee. Niko Niko’s, though, serves what they’ve cleverly term “Greekfast.” The menu offers a few different breakfast pita options, including a sausage pita, steak and egg pita, and Spartan pita (which comes loaded with sausage, eggs, and potatoes). There’s also a baklava French toast served, which is topped with walnuts, honey sauce, powder sugar, and cinnamon and orange rind. Delicious.

A Community Affair

This restaurant hasn’t resigned itself to just serving great food; rather, it has become a staple in the community and participates in many community events, including the Houston Greek Fest. What’s more, Niko Niko’s is also the proud host of Niko Niko’s World Gyro Eating Championship, where competitors will be challenged to eat as many gyros as possible in hopes of winning the grand prize of $2,500. Currently, the record is held by Joey Chestnut, who ate 22.25 gyros in 2013. Whoa.

Bring Your Kids

While kids can be picky eaters, especially when it comes to ethnic foods, Niko Niko’s has put together a kids’ menu that most little ones can’t get enough of. Mini gyros, pizza made on pita bread, a grilled cheese pita, and kids’ fish and chips are a just a few of the yummy options on this menu.
